A lot of people confuse a hand towel and a fingertip towel and cannot tell the differences between the two. However, a fingertip towel is different from other hand towels.
It is a small towel that provides people with an easy and convenient way to dry and wipe fingertips and hands quickly. It is small than a hand towel but a bit bigger than a wash cloth.
A fingertip towel has is multifaceted as it can be decorative or functional or bath. Most people lay it on top of the counter often next to the sink, or drape it over matching hand towels or bath towels or hung it on a small rack often in guest bathrooms.
A fingertip towel often a gracious and luxurious touch to the bathroom and can have various uses, particularly those fingertip towels made from linen. The material is very absorbent, is soft and does not leave residue, making it the best material to dry prized silverware, fine crystal and china without leaving marks.
As such fingertip towels made of linen are versatile. Other than being useful to dry off hands, they can also be useful in the kitchen as a tea towel, utility cloth or even to cover or line a bread basket.
Fingertip towels are also very gracious gifts for housewarming and other hostess parties. They are simply elegant and, therefore, can also be excellent wedding gifts particularly ones that have been monogrammed.
However, despite the versatility of the fingertip towel, traditionally, it had a formal function at the dining table together with finger bowls. They were useful in between different courses where guests at the table would rinse their fingers in the bowl and wipe themselves using the fingertip towels.
However, dinners are no longer as formal and, therefore, the fingertip towels have found new functions.
